Abstract

1333906 Pharmaceutical compositions containing copper myxin F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 24 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 18837/72 Heading ASB Pharmaceutical compositions having antimicrobial activity for the treatment of otic and ophthalmic infections comprise an aqueous suspension of the anti-biotic copper myxin (the cupric complex of 6-methoxy-1- phenazinol 5, 10-dioxide), a thickening agent and a humectant. The thickening agent may be cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose or a water-soluble polymer such as polyvinylpyrolidone, poly-N-vinyl oxazolidinones and block copolymers of polyoxyethylene and propylene and the humectant may be a 1,2-glycol of the formula RCHOHCFLOH in which R represents a C 1-5 alkyl group such as propylene glycol. The compositions may also contain as a stabilizer-buffer a 2 to 20% molar excess of copperions over the total copper present in the copper myxin, provided by copper acetate.
