Abstract
1333724 Intermetallic compounds S A E S GETTERS SpA 19 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 49496/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division H1] A Hg releasing device comprises a holder and Hg vapour generating composition of an intermetallic compound of Hg and of Zr and/or Ti, preferably Zr x Ti y Hg z wherein x and y are 0 to 13 with x + y from 3 to 13 and z is 1 or 2, e.g. Zr 2 TiHg, Zr 3 Ti 2 Hg, Zr 3 Ti 3 Hg 2 , Zr 4 Hg, Ti 5 Hg, Zr 3 Hg and Ti 4 Hg, Ti 5 Hg, Ti 6 Hg, Ti 3 Hg in both 8 and γ forms. The compound may be strip, block or preferably a fine particulate solid, e.g. 10 to 600 mesh size. Non-evaporable getter materials such as Zr, Ti, Ta, Nb, V and mixtures or alloys thereof with Al (e.g. 5 to 30 and preferably 13 to 18 (e.g. 16) wt. per cent Al with Zr) may be added to absorb noxious gases such as oxygen, carbon monoxide and water vapour, the materials being of less than 10<SP>-10</SP> torr vapour pressure at 1000 C., and preferably of the particulate form and size above.
