Abstract

1333387 Vehicle washing apparatus LONDON TRANSPORT EXECUTIVE and METERLUBE Ltd 19 April 1971 [1 Nov 1969] 53651/69 Heading B7J Apparatus for cleaning the chassis and lower parts of motor vehicles comprises two carriages 20 provided with spray heads for directing cleaning fluid at a vehicle 10 located between them, a further carriage movable in direction A provided with a spray head for spraying the underside of the vehicle, and transmission means so connected to the further carriage and extending along its path of movement. The carriages 20 are movable along tracks 12 by means of chains 18 passing around sprocket wheels 16 mounted on posts 14. To provide for simultaneous movement of the carriages 20 and the further carriage, the two chains 18 are joined together by a pair of further chains 24. Cleaning fluid is fed to the spray heads by hoses. The further carriage may be positioned ahead of the carriages 20 so that dirt washed from the underside to the sides of the chassis is removed by the carriages 20, and may be programmed to move at varying speed.
