Abstract

1333185 Objective lenses RANK ORGANISATION Ltd 26 May 1971 [26 May 1971] 17273/71 Heading G2J An optical objective having a relative aperture of between f/0À714 and f/1À0 comprises a front collective member having a front surface located at the axis not more than 0À2F from the entrance pupil, a dispersive field-flattening fibre lens constituting a rear component located substantially in the focal plane, and a convergent intermediate assembly comprising at least three components. The three intermediate components are a second compound component comprising a front collective element and a rear dispersive element with a concave contact surface, a third sample meniscus component convex to the front and a fourth compound component being a front collective element and a rear dispersive element. The front collective member of the objective is an element with its front surface convex to the front and the fibre-lens has a front surface concave to the front and an approximately plane rear surface. An additional meniscus element concave to the front may be interposed between the third and fourth components. Preferably the overall length of the system measured from the plane of the entrance pupil to the image plane lies between 1À3F and 2À3F. The objective may have an actual field from 23 degrees to 60 degrees. Complete optical data are given for three examples.
