Abstract
1333082 Air lift pumps EFLO TREATMENT 19 April 1971 [24 Jan 1970] 3544/70 Heading F1R A sludge pump for a sewage system comprises an air-lift pump 18, 28 provided with an air pressure regulating valve 32 and means 34 for interrupting the air supply automatically at predetermined intervals. Screw 30 is provided to raise and lower air pipe 28 in pipe 18, and the latter is in communication with tank 10 so that sludge can be pumped into a sludge pit 14. The air supply is interrupted by a valve which may be a butterfly valve driven by an air motor or a solenoid operated valve energized by a motor driven switch, arranged so that the length of the intervals during which the valve is open and closed may be varied. Air is then emitted from pipe 28 as discrete bubbles which act like a series of pistons and reduce aeration of the sludge compared to other systems.
