Abstract
1332951 Rotary hydraulic motors M D'AMATO 13 Oct 1971 [4 Nov 1970] 47702/71 Heading F1F An hydraulic motor comprises a rotor 18 having on each end face 18r, 18f an annular groove 42 intersected by a plurality of radial grooves 30, a plurality of angularly spaced abutment members 44a, 44b, ... mounted on stator end plates 16r, 16f and positioned in each annular groove 42, and pistons or vanes 34a, 34b, .... reciprocable one in each radial groove 30 from inner positions (see piston 34a) in which they do not foul the abutment members to outer positions (see piston 34c) in which they extend across their groove 42 and define with one of the abutment members an arcuate working chamber. The working chambers are filled and emptied through axial ducts 40 in the pistons, the inner ends of the radial grooves 30 being alternately filled and emptied through sequential communication with a ring of alternating inlet and outlet ports 70a, 72a, 70b, 72b... in the stator end plates. Thus in Fig.3 the groove 30 containing the piston 34b is in communication with the inlet port 70a. Accordingly pressurized liquid flows through the passage 40 and an L- shaped stator recess 64a into the annular groove 42 between the piston 34c and the abutment member 44a, thereby to cause rotation of the rotor. Simultaneously liquid in the groove 42 on the other side of the piston 34c exhausts through the piston 34d and the port 72a. Each piston has a recess which receives a ball 38 seating in an undulating cam track 36 in the respective end plate 16f, 16r. The shape of the track 36 is such that as the rotor rotates the pistons reciprocate without fouling the stationary abutment members 44a,44b,... A casing 6, 8, 10 encloses the end plates 16r, 16f which are provided with identical pressure pads 74 facing the casing to provide axial force balance. The pressure pads 74 are arranged in two sets, one set being connected by passages (80) to high pressure and the other by passages 82 to low pressure. Each pad 74 is in communication with one of the inlet or outlet ports 70a, 72a... The cover 6 of the casing may be replaced by one which causes only certain of the arcuate chambers to be pressurized, thereby to alter the motor's torque and speed.
