Abstract

1332670 Wheel-chair transport device P E C UDDEN 4 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57801/70 Heading B7J A wheel-chair transport device comprises a transport member 40 rigidly attached to two strips 32 and 34 which in turn are rotatably connected, via a torsion bar 24, to beams 12 and 14 attached to a car as shown, in one position (Fig. 2) the transport member is stationed beside the car and is prevented from further rotation by abutment 36, 38 on the beams engaging the strips 32 and 34, the wheel-chair being attached to a plate 68 by hooks 70, the plate and wheel-chair being lifted into the member by wires 60 and 62, running over pulleys 64 and 66 attached to the transport member, being wound around pulleys 56 and 58 on a shaft 48 carried by roof mounted beams 8, 10 and rotated by a motor 46 mounted on the roof of the car. When the plate engages the top of the transport member the member is bodily rotated to a position as shown in Fig. 3 on the roof of the car and resting on the beam 8, 10, this rotation stressing the torsion bar 24. When the motor 46 is reversed the wire is played out and the transport member is rotated to the position of Fig. 2 by the unstressing of the torsion bar.
