Abstract
1332621 Reinforced concrete SUMASPACE Ltd 24 March 1972 13925/72 Heading E1W [Also in Division C1] A reinforced concrete structure, e.g. a beam or column comprises permanent framework in the shape of a shell which at least partly envelopes the structure, and which is prefomed from glass-reinforced cement, the concrete being bonded to the inside of the framework. The shell may be preformed by spraying upon a former, or by extrusion. The glass reinforced cement may be a mxiture of cement, pozzolanic material and glass fibres, which may be in the proportions 50-60%, 35-45% and 4-6% respectively. The water cement ratio is between 0.25 and 0.45. A preferred mix comprises 5% alkali-resistant glass fibre, 55% ordinary Portland cement and 40% pulverised fuel ash or china clay waste, with a water/ cement ratio of 0.3. The shell may be between 3 mm and 40 mm thick. The interior concrete may be steel-reinforced, with the necessary spacing achieved with the use of a wire frame.
