Abstract

1332526 Oxiranes SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 20081/71 Addition to 1249079 Heading C2C Oxiranes are produced by the oxidation of olefinic compounds with organic hydroperoxides in the presence of a catalyst comprising titanium in combination with an inorganic siliceous solid. The catalysts are those prepared by impregnating the siliceous solid with a substantially non- aqueous solution of a titanium compound in a non-basic, inert, oxygen-substituted hydrocarbon as solvent, removing solvent and calcining the impregnated solid. The catalysts may be promoted with compounds of magnesium or alkali metals. Examples describe the preparation of propylene and 1-octene oxides.
