1332373 Hairpieces R PRESCIUTTI 30 June 1972 [8 June 1971] 19426/71 Heading A4V A method of producing a hairpiece 10 comprises forming a heatable cast (1) Fig.1, (not shown), of the shape of the head; forming a flexible contoured plastics material hairpiece base (3) on the cast, the base including a peripheral rim 4 overlapping a marginal portion of the remainder of the base; passing hairs 5 through the peripheral rim and through the remainder of the base; forming a flexible contoured plastics material liner 8 on the cast; positioning the liner in registration with the base with the ends of the hairs located therebetween; and heat fixing the liner to the base to envelop and secure each end of hair. As described the cast (1) is formed from a plaster cast of the head. The hairpiece base is formed by placing a fabric mesh (2) Fig.2 (not shown), in liquid plastics applied over the cast (1). After curing in a heat source a further coat of liquid plastics is applied. The inner surface (7) of the hairpiece base is coated with liquid plastics to act as a primer for the liner. The liquid plastics primer may include glass fibre. The liner is placed in register with the inner surface (7) and the liner and base are mounted on the cast (1) and pressed into a bed of flexible foamed material. The hairpiece is removed from the cast and submitted to infrared heat to heat fix the liner to the hairpiece base. The hairpiece is replaced on the cast and further pressure applied. The hairpiece base material may be coloured to match the wearer's skin. The base and liner may be provided with ventilation holes.
