Abstract

1332091 Air cushion vehicles; levitated railway vehicles SOC DE L' "AEROTRAIN" 10 March 1972 [11 March 1971 8 Feb 1972] 11396/72 Heading B7K and B7L An air cushion vehicle 1 which may operate over a ground surface or an elevated track has a base 8 to which a plate 6 is secured in spaced relationship by flexible walls 9 to form a variable-volume plenum chamber 10, a flexible cushion-containing skirt 5 being secured to plate 6. Gas for inflating plenum chamber 10 and forming cushion 3 is supplied through orifice 4 and within chamber 10 are positioned in spaced relationship inflatable pneumatic chambers 12 pressurized by injectors 14, 16 which are connected via valves 17 to the interior of the chambers. Each chamber may be attached to either base 8 (as shown) or plate 6, or both. Arrangements for supplying the injector nozzles from a fan or gas turbine plant are described and arrangements are also disclosed of machines associated with fixed tracks with support being provided by cushions maintained above or below atmospheric pressure. On tracked vehicles the invention may be applied to guidance cushions.
