Abstract
1331864 Skinning slaughtered animals M MITCHELL 10 April 1972 [8 Jan 1971] 937/ 71 Heading A2U A method of skinning a carcass of a beast comprises suspending the beast by its four legs with the belly uppermost, securing the head, skinning the head but having the skin removed from the head attached to the skin of the body across the back of the neck, slitting the skin from hoof to hoof along the inside of the back legs and the inside of the front legs, slitting the skin along the belly joining the two hoof to hoof slits and pulling the skin off the body by means of a winch attached to the skin of the head. The method may be carried out in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, this apparatus comprising lifting means 10 and 12, a ring 30 secured in a concrete pad, and a winch 34. The lifting bar 18, to which the carcass is attached, is movable vertically by hydraulic ram-and-cylinder devices 24. Thus the carcass to be skinned is attached to bars 18 when these are at a low level, the bars being subsequently raised to a position at which skinning takes place.
