1331478 Illuminated signs W M SWARTZ 7 Dec 1970 58027/70 Heading G5C An illuminated sign comprises a housing 2 along the front of which a sign face 9 is fitted, held by flanges 7, 8, 10. The sign face 9 contains embossed indicia 11 which are translucent or transparent and of a different colour from the sign face. Each of the indicia is formed with surface irregularities 23 and sharp-line indentations, and each has a border portion (24) which is darker than the central portion (26). The sign face is illuminated by a fluorescent tube 19, and a reflector comprising a cardboard sheet 12 and a wrinkled metal foil 13, the latter being visible through the central portions (26) of the indicia. When illuminated, a passing viewer perceives the illusion of movement or sparkle from the indicia, the brightest sparkle being at the central portion (26) of each character.
