Abstract
1331136 Pack aluminizing CHROMALLOY AMERICAN CORP 19 May 1971 [19 Aug 1970] 15872/71 Heading C7F Aluminized coatings are produced on Ni-base heat-resistant alloys by halide pack diffusion in a pack consisting of 1/8 to 5% Al, 5 to 40% Cr, the weight ratio Cr: Al being greater than 4:1, a vaporizable halogen material, and an inert diluent. The halogen carrier may be NH 4 HF 2 , NH 4 Cl, NH 4 Br, or NH 4 I, and the inert filler a refractory oxide, e.g. Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , CaO or SiO 2 . Heating in the pack is at 1400-2200 F for <SP>1</SP> 4 -40 hours; the ratio of Cr: Al may be from 4: 1 to 160:1 and the amount of halide compound may be # to 2%. The base alloy may contain, in wt per cent, Cr, up to 30; Mo and/or W, up to 20 of each; Nb and/or Ta, up to 10% of each; C, up to 1; Ti and/or Al, up to 10 each but not more than 12 in total; Fe, up to 20; Mn, up to 2; Si, up to 2; B, up to 0À2; Zr, up to 1; Hf, up to 2; and the balance at least 45 of Ni.
