Abstract

1331058 Low lift trucks; container traffic storage VICKERS Ltd 19 April 1971 [15 Dec 1969] 61080/69 Headings B8H and B8Q A motive beam for handling stored containers and which is movable along a track at the level of a row of containers comprises a main frame 1 to whose ends motive units 18 are removably attached, a transversely movable arm 30 on which each end of a container is carried being mounted on the upper side of each unit 18 and a beam (33), Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), for raising and lowering the container extending the length of each arm 30. Both the arms 30 are movable by means of a single motor 8 whose drive is transmitted through shafts 11, 21, 23 to a rotatable lead screw (25), on rotation of which a nut (26) on which a pinion (27) is rotatably mounted is moved transversely of the motive beam, the pinion (27) being rotated by its cooperation with a stationary rack (28) thus moving the associated arm 30 by its engagement with a rack (29) mounted thereon, Fig. 4 (not shown). The beams (33) are raised and lowered by means of jacks (32). The motive beam is driven by means of motors 37 mounted on the motive units 18, the units 18 being movable on wheels 36, the frame 1 also having wheels 6.
