1331003 Tooth brushes ETABS SOPHINDAR 27 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 19711 3923/72 Heading A4K [Also in Divisions A5 and F1] Apparatus for body care comprises a handpiece to which is detachably secured one of two types of appliance head, one type of appliance head, e.g. a toothbrush 41, being adapted to be oscillated by a shaft 30, the other type of appliance head, e.g. a spray nozzle 51, being adapted to receive a liquid, each head being secured to the handpiece by the engagement of a radially projecting claw 45 on each head with an annular groove 37 formed in the handpiece. In a second embodiment Figs. 6-8 (not shown), the heads are secured to the handpiece by the engagement of an outwardly directed annular rib (108) on the handpiece with a recess (119) or (125) formed in each head. Oscillation is transmitted to the shaft by a hydraulic motor driven by a pulsated stream of liquid and comprising a non-rotatable, axially slidable piston 5 connected to a spiral cam Fig. 1 (not shown), engaging a rotatable but non-axially moveable hollow, cylindrical cam follower 7 to which the shaft is connected. The pulsated stream of liquid is supplied to the handpiece through an inlet conduit 15, the passage of the liquid through the handpiece being controlled by a three position sliding valve 21 which works in conjunction with three O-rings 22, 23, 24 such that in the first position of the valve the motor is short circuited and liquid passes directly to the outlet conduit 16, in the second position of the valve the motor is short circuited and liquid passes through the cam follower to the spray nozzle and in the third position the motor is operated and motion is transmitted to the tooth brush head via the shaft. The toothbrush head is provided with an abutment 47 such that the valve cannot be moved into the second position when the toothbrush head is secured on the handpiece.
