1478473 Liquid-jet dental etc appliances LES PRODUITS ASSOCIES LPA SA 4 Oct 1974 [19 Oct 1973] 43040/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division F2] A liquid-jet hand-held appliance for personal hygiene, e.g. cleaning teeth or massaging gums, and provided with an "on-off" arrangement for liquid, comprises a generally cylindrical chamber 24 in a casing 21, having a liquid inlet passage 22, a liquid outlet passage 25 in communication with a jet attachment. 17, an opening 32 to atmosphere, and a bisstable valve including an O-ring 28 and a longitudinally movable shaft 31 passing through the opening and carrying a metal or plastics valve member 29 of a diameter larger than that of the shaft, the latter being provided with a slidable sealing member 41 having an annular resilient lip 42 and the shaft being connected with an external member 16, so that during use, the forward and rearward manual movements of the member 16 cause the valve member 29 to respectively disengage and engage the O-ring 28 and thereby resume and stop the supply of liquid to the spray attachment. A member 35 with fingers 35' defining radial slots (36) Fig. 4 (not shown) for the passage of liquid therethrough, and an annular slot 33 in the external member 16 and a corresponding annular section 34 of the casing guide the shaft and the valve member during their movements. A reciprocating-piston pump (10), Fig. 1 (not shown) provided with a knob to adjust the pressure of the pulses, delivers the liquid to the hand-appliance.
