Abstract

1329877 Chucks FRANK GUYLEE & SON Ltd 2 June 1972 [9 June 1971] 19695/71 Heading B3N [Also in Division F2] A tapping chuck is provided with a driven member 12, a driving member 10, driving connection means between said members including a plurality of steel balls 30 located in respective holes 32 in one of said members and engaging respective depressions 36 in the other of said members, and overload release means whereby at a predetermined set torque the driving member 12 can rotate freely relative to the driven member 10, said overload release means being constituted by resilient means 40 for loading said balls into engagement with the depressions, adjustable means for pre-loading said resilient means, and a locking ring 50 having one or more locking pins 52 extending through aligned holes in relatively rotatable elements of the adjustable means. The adjustable means includes a cap 46 threadably adjustable along an extending tubular part 14 of the driving member 10 and bearing through needle rollers 48 and alock washer 44 upon springs 40.The lock washer 44 is keyed to the said tubular part 14 and receives the locking pins 52. A graduated scale is provided on the skirt of the cap 46. The driven member 12 is mounted by a taper roller bearing 20 within the driving member 10 and includes a spigot 26 on which a tap holder is mounted.
