Abstract

1329609 Glass composition TOKYO ELECTRIC POWER CO Ltd and TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 23 Sept 1970 [27 Sept 1969 27 Dec 1969] 45233/70 Heading C1M [Also in Division H2] A tempered glass insulator for electric transmission wiring is manufactured from a vitrous composition comprising in percentage by weight SiO 2 30-80; Al 2 O 3 0-40; CaO 0-40; MgO 0-40; BaO 0-20; Al 2 O 3 + CaO 1-69; Al 2 O 3 + CaO + MgO + BaO 5-69; Na 2 O 0-5; K 2 O 0-10; Na 2 O + K 2 O 0-10; Si 2 O 0-10; B 2 O 3 0-40; ZnO 0-30; PbO 0-10; Fe 2 O 3 0-5; B 2 O 3 + ZnO + PbO + Fe 2 O 3 0-60; Na 2 O + K 2 O + Li 2 O + B 2 O 3 + ZnO + PbO + Fe 2 O 3 1-60; and having a softening point in the range 800-1200‹ C. and in which the value of the ratio is from 8000 x 10<SP>7</SP> to 30,000 Î 10<SP>7</SP> ‹C.<SP>3</SP>, The composition may additionally contain ZrO 2 , TiO 2 and BeO such that ZrO 2 + TiO 2 + BeO is in the range 0À2 to 40. As shown, an insulator comprises a glass body 1 having a flat cap 2 and upper projection 3, with three round piers 4a, 4b, 4c formed on the underside of the cap 2. The body 1 is surmounted by a metal cap 6 secured thereto by adhesive cement 7. The body is provided with a recess 8 in which is embedded a metal pin 9 secured by another adhesive cement 10.
