Abstract

1329468 Pressure sensitive adhesive material KONINKLIJKE PAPIERFABRIEKEN VAN GELDER ZONEN NV 11 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 43583/70 Heading B2E A pressure-sensitive adhesive material comprises a paper substrate, preferably non- impregnated, a coating of polyethylene weighing at least 25 g/m<SP>2</SP> and a coating thereon of a pressure sensitive adhesive weighing at least 5 g/m<SP>2</SP>. The paper may be Kraft or glassine and is preferably subjected to corona discharge or heat or is coated with a primer before application of the polyethylene. The polyethylene, which is preferably a high pressure polyethylene having a specific gravity of 0.915 to 0.955, may be applied by extrusion at a temperature of 295 to 320‹C. or may be applied as a preformed film. The polyethylene preferably contains a copolymer of vinylidene chloride and an acrylate or methacrylate to improve the adhesion of the adhesive to the polyethylene. The polyethylene coating may be treated by corona discharge or a flame treatment before application of the adhesive. The adhesive is preferably applied in the form of an aqueous dispersion or latex. In order to enable the material to be stacked or rolled into spools, the non-coated face on the paper may be provided with a polyethylene, silicone resin or a silicone resin coated polyethylene backing or a release paper may be applied over the adhesive layer.
