Abstract
1329209 Retractive switches T ARVAI 10 Aug 1971 [10 Aug 1970] 37536/71 Heading H1N A switching device has contacts comprising a helically coiled wire 1 and blade 3, the wire 1 being supported on a base 5 formed with a plurality of depressions 2a into which the coil can be deformed. This contact arrangement is said to give reliable immediate engagement with no contact bounce; the blade 3 can engage between the turns of the coil or simply abut on turn. In Figs. 2 (not shown) and 3 a plurality of coils 1 extend side by side on a base 11 formed with the depressions. Above the coils a plurality of levers 12, at right angles to the coils, are pivoted on a shaft 14; each is biased away from the coils by a spring 16 and carries a push button 19; a plurality of balls 15 arranged parallel to the coils 1 ensure that one only of the levers 12 can be depressed by its push button at any time. Each lever 12 carries a comb 12 providing a plurality of contact blades 12a aligned with the coils and depressions 2a. In use each comb 12 has most of its blades 12a broken away (Fig. 3a, not shown) leaving a predetermined pattern, each comb being different, so that depression of any button 19 causes predetermined ones of the coils 1 to be connected to a voltage source and thus provides a discrete coded output from the coils corresponding to the button depressed.
