Abstract
1329194 Inductive signalling KNOGO CORP 3 Nov 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 51113/71 Heading H4U [Also in Division G4] Theft of articles is indicated at 20 by the effect of a timed circuit attached to each article upon a signal supplied to an antenna 10 near an exit from the protected area, and erroneous operation is inhibited at 28 by a duplicate system 2 having another antenna 21. The signal generator 11 energizing both antennae has its frequency swept by 13, 14, 12 and a drop in signal amplitude at 16 due to presence of a timed circuit near the antenna 10 is detected as a pulse at 18 to operate a relay 19 and alarm 20 which may be audio, visual, or an automatic door locking arrangement. Spurious signals which may energize the pulse detecting system 15-18 of the main antenna 10 also energize the duplicate pulse detecting system 2 (22-25) controlled by the second antenna, and operate a relay 27 to disable the alarm 20. The antenna 21 is placed far enough from 10 however not to be affected by a stolen article. The same oscillator 11 as shown or a separate one may be used to energize the duplicate system. A refinement of this arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) has both main and second antennae 10, 21 arranged to detect a stolen article at one exit, and both antennae 10, 21 of a second similar pair of detecting systems (39, 43) arranged to detect a stolen article at a second adjacent exit, but with the duplicate detecting systems 42 (43) arranged to disable the alarms of the non-associated main detectors (39) 36. This prevents the system at one exit responding to a stolen article at the other. In a differently arranged embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the main antenna and associated pulse detector (3) is associated with one exit and an identical arrangement (4) constituting the duplicate system with an adjacent exit. The pulse amplitudes produced (at 18) are compared in discriminators (34, 35) which enable appropriate gates (19) so that the antenna whose detector produces the largest pulse is allowed to operate its alarm. This again prevents stolen articles in one exit operating the alarm in an adjacent exit.
