Abstract

1328758 Cryogenic tanks HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 22 April 1971 [15 May 1970] 10861/71 Heading F4P [Also in Division B7] A supporting device for a tank 1 comprises horizontally relatively slidable support blocks 7a, 7b on the tank bottom 2 and bottom support structure plate 5 respectively, and guide blocks 3a, 3b arranged in spaced pairs, the blocks 3a of each pair being fixed to tank bottom 2 and the block 3b being attached to bottom plate 5. The pairs of blocks 3a, 3b are relatively slidable along mutually perpendicular planes X-X and Y-Y only, the blocks 3a being located in opposite quadrants A, C and the blocks 3b being located in the other opposite pair of quadrants B, D. The tank 1 can thus expand radially about its centre O but is prevented from both rotational and translational movement relative to its supporting structure. A heat insulating block 6 may be interposed between blocks 3a, 3b, the block 6 being attached to one guide block and having a surface on which the other guide block slides. The planes of sliding may be obliquely orientated relative to each other (Fig. 5, not shown).
