Pilot jets. - A welding blowpipe burner has a pilotlight tip 21 arranged a substantial distance to the rear of the burner tip 14 and adapted, on the gas supply to the pilot-light tip being temporarily increased, to project an igniting-flame so as to intersect the gaseous stream issuing from the burner tip. Gas is supplied to the pilot-light tip through an annular passage 19 between an inner tube 5 conveying gas to the burner tip and an outer tube 18, the supply being controlled by a valve 24 working in the end of a port 22. The valve screws into a spring-pressed disk 25 having ports which, when the valve is not screwed down, permit of the passage of a small quantity of gas sufficient to keep a small pilot-light burning. The valve and disk may be raised, against the pressure of the spring 28, by a lever 31 actuated by the thumb of the operator. This allows of the passage of an increased quantity of gas, so that the pilot.flame is elongated and projected into proximity with the burner tip. On the lever 31 being released, the pilot-light resumes its normal dimensions. The gas may be cut off from the pilot-light tip by screwing down the valve 24.
