1328671 Correcting track level MATISA MATERIEL INDUSTRIEL SA 21 Sept 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 44902/70 Heading B7N In an arrangement for correcting the level of a railway track, the subsequent ballast settlement is taken into consideration by initially determining the correction required and then adding a fraction of this correction to the amount of track lift. The correction machine including track lifting and packing apparatus 4, 6, and light receiving apparatus 16, responsive to a reference line defining laser beam 11 transmitted from a source 8 in advance, is initially moved over the track to be corrected so that a record of the receiver movement for it to remain in beam 11 i.e. a record of the errors in track level, is recorded by head 23 on magnetic tape 24 driven in synchronism with the machine movement. During a second track correcting pass the error signals are played back in synchronism with the machine movement and the receiver height is moved by a predetermined fraction of this signal to ensure that extra lift is provided to accommodate ballast settlement. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the machine operates in one pass, the laser beam reference system being used to set the leading end of a further light beam reference line in accordance with the fraction of the error signal.
