Abstract

1328653 Laminates BUDD CO 2 Nov 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 52061/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] The adhesiveness of substrates comprising a polyamide to coatings of silicone elastomers and adhesives is increased by applying to the substrate a solution comprising a fluorinated organo-polysiloxane in a polar organic solvent of high dielectric constant which is a partial solvent for the polyamide and removing the solvent. The preferred organopolysiloxane is polytrifluoropropylmethylvinyl siloxane and this may be compounded with fillers such as silica and titanium dioxide, plasticizers such as silicone oils, and curing agents such as organic peroxides and zinc, lead or manganese octoates. Suitable solvents are dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and dimethyl sulphoxide An inert liquid which is a non-solvent for the polyamide may be present such as an aromatic hydrocarbon, ketone or alcohol. The solution preferably contains 2- 50% of the fluorinated organopolysiloxane. The substrate may be in the form of a film, fibrous mesh, fabric or a "paper". A silicone adhesive or rubber may subsequently be applied to the treated substrate as a coating or by a calendering method.
