1328442 Coin sorting KOKUEI KIKAI SEISAKUSHO KK 19 May 1971 [19 May 1970 3 Dec 1970] 15764/71 Heading G4X A coin sorting device comprises a diameter presetting member for adjustably presetting a cross-sectional dimension of a coin passageway to prevent passage of coins of a diameter larger than this dimension, means for transferring coins along the passageway and being adjustable relative to the passageway so as to suit the thickness of coins being transferred, and a control mechanism which simultaneously adjusts the diameter presetting member and coin transferring means. The device preferably includes a thickness presetting member for preventing passage of overthick coins which is also simultaneously adjusted by the control mechanism. In the embodiment shown the coin passageway dimensions are defined by fixed and movable diameter gauge members 61, 64 respectively with coin supporting ledges 63, 66 and a thickness gauge member 45. The coin transferring means comprises a driven pulley 4, endless belt 7 and idler pulley 6 carried by a pivoted spring urged arm 5. The belt driving mechanism 46, comprising shaft support 47 and pulley 48, is pivotally mounted on base 1 by a rod 50 that also pivotally carries a movable frame 43 to which the thickness gauge member 45 is attached (see also Fig. 7, not shown). The belt driving mechanism 46 is urged into abutment with frame 43 by a spring 54. A control knob (74) (Fig. 5, not shown) is connected to a shaft 71 and drives cams 68, 78 via pin wheel 72 and star wheel 70, and bevel gears 75, 77. Cam 68 acts on an edge 65 of movable diameter gauge member 64 and cam 78 acts to pivot movable frame 43 and belt driving mechanism 46. Various adjusting screws are provided for the idler pulley 6, frame 43 and mechanism 46. In a second embodiment (Figs. 8 to 11, not shown) the control knob also determines the positioning of coin entrance guide plates (64a), (92) and curved guide member (98) that overlie a rotating coin table (not shown) so as to form the optimum coin entrance configuration for the coins to be sorted. A coin counting gear may be provided at the exit of the coin passageway.
