Abstract

1328391 Laminated building panels INTERLOCKING SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 11 Aug 1970 38679/70 Heading B5N A method of attaching a rigid rectangular face sheet to a rectangular building panel formed of a rectangular peripheral frame and a core of thermal insulation having at least one face which is substantially coplanar with the face of the frame, in which a heat curable adhesive is deposited in lattice coatings over the said one face of the core and over one face of the face sheet, the two lattice coatings are heat cured during which substantially all solvents in the coatings are dispelled, the building panel and the face sheet are located in their desired relative attached positions while the two adhesive faces are held spaced substantially apart and facing one another, the adhesive coatings are brought into contact with another and bonding pressure is applied to cause the adhesive to bond the face sheet to the building panel. The method may be used in the production of the panel shown in Fig. 3 which comprises an outer frame 21 having three grooved edges 24 and a ribbed edge 27 adapted to fit with a grooved edge of an adjacent panel, inner frame members 22 and 23 which define a window opening 29, blocks 30 of foamed plastics filling the full thickness of the frame and rectangular face sheets 42 and 43 having openings 44 and 45 bonded to the blocks 30, fastening devices 31 for locking the panels together being held in place by pins 32. An apparatus for use in the method is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a belt conveyer 11 driven by an adjustable speed drive 12, a frame assembly, a one face laminate or an outer face sheet being located at station 13 and conveyed by the conveyer 11 through an adhesive application station 14 having a multiple spray head 15 and a heating zone 17 to an assembly station 18 at which it is assembled with the other component in a jig 19 and the resultant assembly fed through a laminating station 19a having roller press 20. As shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, the jig has a support 82 located between the delivery end 83 of the conveyer frame 66 and a loading table frame 84 of the laminating station 19a, the jig being adapted by fixed locating blocks 85 and end blocks 86 to slidably receive a frame assembly 41 having cured adhesive on the upper surface thereof. When the frame assembly 41 has been located within the jig 19 with its adhesive coated face uppermost, a face material sheet 42 having a cured adhesive coating 47 is flipped over as shown by arrow F to bring its rearward edge 92 against jig locating faces 93 and resting on pins 89 located in blocks 85 with its edges 92a held upwardly at an angle A to be lowered gradually while edge 92 is located against locating faces 94 of blocks 86. The frame assembly and sheet 42 are then raised and removed from the jig rearwardly to allow the remaining unengaged surface of the sheet 42 to fall into engagement with the frame assembly surface, the resultant assembly being placed on the loading table frame 84 to be fed to the press 20.
