1328123 Counting apparatus BAUSCH & LOMB Inc 23 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 13328/73 Divided out of 1328121 Heading G4D A circuit for converting a video signal from a television camera to a binary signal suitable for feeding to the data processing circuits of the image analysing system of the main Specification comprises a circuit 83 determining the maximum value 96 of the video signal waveform 95 between transitions thereof representing the boundaries of objects in the field of view and storing said maximum value; a circuit 85 similarly determining the minimum value 97 between transitions and storing that; and means 90 generating a binary signal having transitions from one state to the other when the video signal passes through a value 98 equal to the average of the stored maximum and minimum values. The video signal is applied via a matching circuit 84 and a D.C. restorer 86 to the circuits 83, 85 and via a delay 89 to the comparator 90 and to a further comparator 81 which prevents the circuit operating on excursions of the video signal less than a predetermined value.
