1327910 2α - Methyl - 17# - cyclopentyloxy-5α- androstan-3-one SYNTEX CORP 11 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 16718/72 Heading C2U The novel title steroid is prepared from the corresponding 17#-ol and cyclopentyl bromide or by reacting 5α-androstan-17#-ol-3-one with cyclopentyl bromide to give 17#-cyclopentyloxy- 5α-androstan-3-one, treating this with ethyl formate in the presence of a base to give 2- hydroxymethylene - 17# - cyclopentyloxy - 5α- androstan-3-one and then catalytically hydrogenating this. The reactions with cyclopentyl bromide are effected in organic liquid reaction media and in the presence of sodium hydride or silver carbonate.
