Abstract

1327794 Heat pipes MARCONI CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [11 June 1970] 28432/70 Heading F4U In a heat pipe having a capillary wick structure consisting of woven wick material 15 formed on a fine mesh screen 16 of copper, and leaf springs 17 which urge the wick material towards the wall of the heat pipe, at least part of the wall is made of conformable material, preferably a polyester material. In operation, copper blocks 14 cause the vapour to condense to form liquid which is redistributed by the capillary action of the wick material. The heat pipes are used to cool printed circuit boards 1-6 having microminiature circuit packages 7. In other embodiments, the screen 16 may be strengthened and disposed on either side of the conformable walls.
