Abstract

1327321 Urea CHEMICAL CONSTRUCTION CORP 25 May 1971 16941/71 Heading C2C Urea is synthesized from carbon dioxide and ammonia in a process in which (1) carbon dioxide and ammonia are reacted at 100 to 350 km./sq. cm., (2) the product is heated at less than 100 kg./sq. cm. to separate an off gas from liquid urea effluent, (3) an aqueous ammonium carbamate solution is recovered from the off gas and pressurized to 30 to 350 kg./sq. cm., (4) the solution is stripped in an externally heated zone by carbon dioxide to decompose ammonium carbamate and remove carbon dioxide and ammonia, (5) the resulting gas is heat exchanged with a fluid to condense at least partially, ammonium carbamate, and (6) the resulting stream, with condensate is recycled to urea synthesis.
