Abstract

1326912 Electrophonic musical instruments PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Nov 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 54432/70 Heading G5J In an electronic piano comprising an oscillator O, connected via a divider chain of digital dividers-by-two B 1 , B 2 ... B m to a system of AND-gates, N 1 -N n , dividers by 2P, C 1 -C n and percussion circuits P 1 -P n operated by the associated key, the frequencies of the tones produced deviate from the equally tempered twelve-tone scale substantially according to a Railsback curve as shown in Fig. 1. In a further embodiment the output of each AND-gate is fed back through a pulse shaper to reset the inputs of the digital dividers B. The tone generator may be used as a tuning apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown) whereby the output of the tone generator is compared with the signal produced by the string to be tuned via a magnetic pick-up by a frequency difference detector. Types of frequency detector are described. The overtones of the instrument to be tuned are filtered out prior to tuning. The filter circuit is described.
