Abstract

1326801 Automatic gain control MARCONI CO Ltd 9 Dec 1970 [26 March 1970] 14722/70 Heading H3Q In a servo system in which a signal level detector 5 compares the level of an input signal with a reference waveform from a generator 9 and gives an output which is used to control the input signal, the reference waveform has a step at one level in its rising flank and a step at a different level in its falling flank. The detector output is passed to an integrator 7, which is preferably a motor-driven potentiometer and the output of which is used to control the gain of a signal amplifier 2. The amplifier 2 receives a signal at 1 and produces a system output at 3, the output also being taken via a peak detector 4 to form the signal input to the detector 5. The reference waveform is preferably as in Fig. 3, and the detector 5 produces an output waveform which is rectangular and of varying mark-space ratio-see Fig. 4, not shown.
