1326737 Washing machines BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 14 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 50416/69 Heading D1A [Also in Division F4] To prevent clothes from being displaced (so unbalancing the loaded drum 6), rinse water is introduced into the open top of the drum 6 as a multiplicity of jets, rinse water being supplied through a pipe 25 to an annular chamber 22 having apertures 26 which direct the jets downwardly and inwardly, as shown in Fig. 4. The rinse water supply is controlled so that water just trickles from a short tube in the top wall of the annular chamber 22. Clothes laden with washing (or rinsing) water are loaded into the drum 6, and a manual switch is set to "spin" to energise the motor 7 to drive a pump 15 to remove liquid from the container 8 and drive the drum 6 through a centrifugal clutch 10. After a time, the manual switch is set to "rinse" to deenergise the motor 7 and supply rinse water from a tap (not shown) in the pipe 25 to the drum 6. When the water level in the container 8 reaches A-A, a pressure switch 18 closes to re-energise the motor 7 to drive the pump 15 and drum 6. When the water level in the container reaches B-B, the pressure switch 18 opens to de-energise the motor 7. The rinse cycle repeats automatically until the rinse water supply is turned off and the switch returned to "spin" for the final spin, which is terminated manually, or automatically by a timer. The pressure switch 18 may be replaced by timer controls.
