Abstract
1326652 Stowable wing aircraft WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd 9 Feb 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 47/0947 Headings B7G and B7W An aircraft comprises a fuselage 11 and a wing 12 which in its operational position, Fig. 1 (not shown) extends laterally across the top of the fuselage, the wing being rotatable in a substantially horizontal plane, about a pivot 15 located centrally of the wing, between the operational position and a stowed position, Fig. 2, in which it overlies the fuselage in a substantially longitudinal direction. The aircraft is a convertiplane having a tiltable engine 14 at each wing tip having blades 16 able to function as a lift rotor or a propeller, as described in patent Specification 1,188,946. The pivot 15 may have power means for stowing the wing and may include an air bearing. The rotor blades may also be folded, either manually or by power means. Locking means may be provided for the wing in either position.
