Abstract

1326232 Grinding; truing grinding wheels TOOLING (WOODFORD) Ltd 24 Oct 1970 50641/70 Heading B3D A grinding attachment for a grinding machine comprises an arrangement 44, 45 for accurately fixing the attachment to the grinding machine 40, a member 50 rotatably supported on the arrangement 44, and means clamping a high speed grinder 60 to the member, the grinder having a spindle for rotating a relatively small diameter grinding wheel 9 at a relatively high speed, rotation of the member moving the grinding wheel between an operative position and a position in alignment with a dressing apparatus on the grinding machine. The spindle 41 of the grinding machine normally mounts a grinding wheel of 7- diameter rotated at 2,800 r.p.m.. When it is desired to use a wheel 9 of, say 1- diameter, the normal grinding wheel is removed from the spindle and a block 44 accurately positioned on the face 1 of the machine by a setting block 45 engaging the spindle 41, the block being secured to the face by screws. When the setting block is removed, a bracket 46 is secured to the block 44 and has a spindle 49 on which the member 50, in the form of an arm, is rotatably mounted. The end of the arm has a clamp 61 for a grinder 60 which is rotatable at a high speed, e.g. 50,000 r.p.m., and has a spindle for the small diameter grinding wheel 9. An extension 55 of the member is formed with a bush 57 for a pin 56 which is engageable with one or other of a pair of sockets 58 on the bracket 45 selectively position the grinder for operating on a workpiece 43 or for dressing of the wheel 9 by a dressing device such as that described in Specification 844,143.
