Abstract
1326054 Electronic timepieces CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 18 Aug 1970 [18 Aug 1969 20 Aug 1969 25 Aug 1969] 39810/70 Heading G3T [Also in Division H1] A battery powered electronic timepiece, wherein a balance wheel 32 (Fig.1) drives a gear train and permanent magnets 135, 136 on the balance wheel co-operate with drive and sensing coils 31, 30 connected in a transistor oscillator circuit to drive the balance wheel, comprises at least one thin film adjustable resistor element 50 whereby the amplitude of oscillation of the balance wheel can be adjusted to a desired value. The resistor element 61 (Fig.3) of resistor 50 together with connecting leads also a further resistor 55, are formed by vapour deposition or other printed circuit techniques. As shown sections d 1 d 2 d 3 of element 61 are shunted by a conductor strip a and are thus ineffective while sections U 1 U 2 are effective in the drive circuit. In order to adjust the effective value of resistance of element 61 and hence the amplitude of oscillation cuts are made successively in the shunting strip a to form further gaps c whereby sections d 1 d 2 etc can be added sequentially and the effective resistance increased stepwise. Alternatively gaps may be cut in the lateral strip "b" as described with ref. to Figs. 14, 15 (not shown). If it is desired to decrease the said resistance the gaps c may be bridged with conductive paste. The resistor 55 may be adjusted if desired by making one or more lateral cuts extending across part of its width only. Various conventional transistor oscillator circuits utilizing an adjustable resistor(s) substantially as Figs. 1 and 3, are illustrated in Figs. 2, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 (not shown). A modified adjustable resistor element having paralleled sections is illustrated in Fig. 6 (not shown). Each coil may function alternately as a drive and a sensing coil.
