Abstract

1326037 Convolutely-wound tubes TAKATA KOJYO CO Ltd 11 Aug 1970 38577/70 Heading F2P A tube comprises a web of superimposed layers of different plastics materials, the web having reinforcing fibres embedded therein, the web being convolutely wound with confronting faces of successive convolutions bonded together, e.g. by heat sealing or by the use of adhesive, plasticizer or solvent. A large fraction of the fibres may be circumferentially orientated. As shown the web comprises a fibrous layer 1 between layers 12 and 13 of different polymeric materials. Layer 12 may be of p.v.c. and layer 13 may be of nylon or synthetic rubber. The convolutions are secured by adhesive 3. Edges 4 of the web are bevelled. The web may include two or more similar or different fibrous layers. The tube may be lined with a nylon or synthetic rubber tube or with a metal foil tube, and in the latter case, a tail formed integrally with the metal tube lies between and is bonded to the innermost convolutions. A polymeric tubular cover may be heat shrunk over the wound web. Two convolutely wound webs may be located one within the other with a layer of heat insulating, cushioning material, e.g. expanded or foamed resin, therebetween. The fibrous reinforcement may be woven, knitted or non-woven. The fibres may be staple or continuous and may be of nylon, polyester, polyolefines, polyacrylonitriles, polyvinyl alcohol, cotton, hemp, jute, ramie, sisal, wool, asbestos, cellulose, glass or metal. A fibrous reinforcing layer may be embedded in each plastics layer of the laminated web. Alternatively, the fibrous layer may be located between the plastics layers.
