Abstract

1325654 Equilibrating polysiloxanes BAYER AG 30 March 1972 [3 April 1971] 15030/72 Heading C3T Linear polysiloxanes are obtained by equilibration of cyclic polysiloxanes [RR<SP>1</SP>SiO] n , wherein R is a hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, R<SP>1</SP> is H or a hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical and n is 3 or more, optionally with a siloxane R[RR<SP>1</SP>SiO] m SiR 2 R<SP>1</SP>, wherein m is 1 or more, below 50‹ C. in the presence of an anhydrous perfluoroalkane sulphonic acid in amount at least 0À05 wt. per cent of the total siloxane. An acidic or neutral filler may be added before, during, or after the polymerization. In the example octamethyl cyclotetrasiloxane with a trace of hexamethyldisiloxane is stirred at room temperature with perfluoro n butane sulphonic acid while pyrogenic silica of 130 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. specific surface area is slowly added; the product is kneaded with hexamethyldisilazane to neutralize the acid. In alternative procedures the silica is omitted, the reaction is conducted at 45‹ C., trifluoromethane- or perfluorooctanesulphonic acid is used, or ZnCO 3 is used to neutralize the catalyst.
