Abstract

1325525 Culture for regenerating nutrients in soil H DURRELL 22 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 10790/71 Heading C1B A method for making a nutrient-promoting culture by a controlled sequence of reactions, the latter including organic reactions, comprises a plurality of stages wherein said organic reactions are controlled within said sequence, said sequence comprising the steps of: (a) establishing an open trench in the earth, the bounding area of which is soil inoculated with bacteria which bring about decomposition and decay; (b) placing a quantity of foliage therein under conditions permitting said foliage to become degraded and form a slurry and covering said foliage, said degrading process causing the release of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere; (c) transferring said slurry to a container and adding water thereto, said water containing carbonates selected from the group consisting of calcium and magnesium (e.g. well water); (d) determining the pH of said mixture until the value thereof is stable (indicating ammoniation has ceased and nitrification has commenced); (e) filtering said mixture to remove the unreacted material and collecting the filtrate, and (f) aging said filtrate until the pH is again stable, whereby said stabilized filtrate comprises a nutrient-promoting culture. The culture obtained is added to soil.
