Abstract

1325212 Knitting machines E MAYER [trading as MAYER & CIE] 25 Nov 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 56028/70 Heading D1C An electric pattern attachment for a multisystem knitting machine with a rotary cylinder and electro-magnetically actuated selector members which act on needles or needle jacks has a multi-track tape read by heads associated with individual knitting systems and staggered along the tape which generate signals which through suitable circuitry actuate the electromagnets according to the required pattern and in synchronism with the rotation of the needle cylinder, the reading heads being adjustable in conformity with the intervals between knitting systems which are a non-integral multiple of the needle spacing in the direction of the tape. As shown the perforated tape has four tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 which give a two colour pattern tracks 1, 3 carrying 'knit' information and tracks 2. 4 carrying 'do not knit' information, consecutive systems knitting alternately in different colours. The informtaion must be applied in, the correct sequence to the knitting systems and spaced by the number of needle steps separating the systems viz. 59.52 needles manual spacing in this example. (2232 needles 36 systems). The tape division chosen is the nearest even number i.e. 60 and reading heads 110, 111 are displaced contrary to the direction of travel of the tape by (60-59.52 i.e. 0.48) divisions so that the commencement of feeding each system comes after 59.52 needles. Three of four colour patterns may be knitted controlled by tapes with six or eight tracks. As shown, Fig. 6, eight track perforated tape 105 is carried from drum 120 round rollers 121 to spiked drive rollers 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, between each adjacent pair of which there is a double track reading head 110, 111, 112, 113, and thence round rollers 121 to roller 128. An endless tape arrangement may be used. Heads 110-113 have levers 131 carrying follower rolls 132 which engage exchangeable cam discs, e.g. 130 carried on a shaft driven synchronously with the needle cylinder to displace the heads. The drive rollers have marks m, m 2 , m 3 , m 4 , m 5 which are made to coincide with marks on the tape during setting up. Magnetic tapes may be used instead.
