Abstract
1325129 Magnetic holding devices P M BRAILLON 25 April 1972 [13 May 1971] 19067/72 Heading H1P A magnetic chuck or work-holder comprises (Fig. 1) a base-plate 1 of magnetizable material and a polar plate 4 wherein polepieces 5 and non-magnetic separators 6 are lineally stacked at predetermined pitch. A non-magnetic metal rectangular frame 2 having cylindrical recesses receiving alternate polepieces 7 and permanent magnets 8 which is interposed between plates 1 and 4 receives a slidable core 3 having a non- magnetic metal block with cylindrical recesses in two longitudinal rows alternately receiving polepieces 9 and permanent magnets 10. In the position of Fig. 2 the magnets and polepieces are transversely aligned so that polepieces 5 are energized to attract a workpiece 12 (Fig. 3) by a magnetic field looped therethrough. In the opposite position of the core 3 (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) the magnets are misaligned inter se and the magnetic field is looped through the polepieces 5 of plate 4 to release the workpiece. In a modification (Figs. 6-9, not shown), the magnetic core comprises three adjacent blocks each having two rows of cylindrical holes alternately receiving polepieces and permanent magnets enclosed in a frame as above, with the central block stationary and the flank blocks movable simultaneously; all the magnets being aligned in the operative position and misaligned inter se in the release position. The magnets and polepieces are identical and interchangeable.
