Abstract

1324404 Laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 11931/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Fabrics are bonded by applying to a fabric surface a polyamide, contacting with a second surface, and applying heat to soften the polyamide. The polyamide may be applied as a powder to a cotton base-cloth at 1 oz. per square yard, and a cotton material may be bonded to the base-cloth by use of a hand-iron set so that the interlining temperature is 150-155‹ C. The polyamide consists essentially of, by weight, 20-62% nylon 6À9 units, 25-65% nylon 6 units, and 0-30% nylon 6À6 units, randomly distributed, and has softening-point 120-160‹ C. The number-average particle size of the powder may be 100-300 Ám. Also present may be #10% of other nylon units, e.g. derived from H 2 N- (CH 2 ) 2-5 -NH 2 , H 2 N-(CH 2 ) 10 -NH 2 , of H 2 N- (CH 2 ) 12 -NH 2 , or from oxalic, succinic, suberic, sebacic, dodecanoic, terephthalic, or isophthalic acids.
