Abstract

1324162 Aromatic dicarboxylic acids SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 10 Sept 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 44633/79 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein X represents OH, R 2 represents a hydrocarbon group having at least 6 C atoms and R 1 and R 3 represent H atoms or hydrocarbon groups. They may be obtained by alkylation of phenol followed by phenation, carboxylation and hydrolysis. The desired isomers maybe isolated from a mixture of isomers by chromatography. In an example, 2-hydroxy-5-cetylbenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid was isolated. These compounds may be used in hydrocarbon oil compositions.
