Abstract

1323826 Electro-plating with nickel-iron alloy HITACHI Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 21313/71 Heading C7B An Fe-Ni permalloy film, e.g. 80% Ni-20% Fe for a memory element and having uniform composition throughout its thickness and zero magnetostriction co-efficient, is electro-plated, e.g. on to a Ag or Au wire, from an acidic electrolyte containing ferrous and nickel salts, e.g. sulphate, chloride or sulphamate, in which the Ni concentration is 0À02 to 0À15 mol/l and the weight ratio of Ni: Fe is 4 to 20:1, using a constant D.C. density greater than 5A/dm<SP>2</SP>. The wire 3 may be continuously passed in succession through a pre-treatment device 6, a rotating cylindrical agitator 4 in the electro-plating bath 1 between rinsing devices 8, 8' and a heat-treatment device 9 e.g. an electric ageing furnace, whilst actuating power source 15 to provide D.C. in the bath and A.C. in the wire. The electro-plated wire 12 has an axis of easy magnetization in the peripheral direction.
