Abstract

1323824 Cellulose derivatives having improved strength and fatigue resistance MO OCH DOMSJO AB 19 April 1971 [23 Jan 1970 2 March 1970] 20215/71 Addition to 1271118 Heading B5B The strength and fatigue resistance of cellulose xanthate, cellulose acetate or hydroxyethyl cellulose is improved by mixing the cellulose derivative after its formation with a modifier which comprises (i) an adduct A having little or no surface activity (i.e. an aqueous solution of the compound, at a concentration of 0À2 grams per litre of distilled water, has a surface tension of at least 55 dynes per cm) and having the general formula in which R is a phenyl or tolyl radical and n is an integer from 51 to 30, and (ii) an adduct B having little or no surface activity having the general formula R 2 O(C 2 H 4 O)mH in which R 2 is a methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl radical and m is an integer from 5 to 25. The weight ratio of A to B is preferably from 50 : 50 to 95 : 5. Those modifiers are included in a conventional viscose solution which is conventionally spun.
