Abstract

1323365 Blood pressure cuff MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 13 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 54190/70 Heading ASK A laminated one-piece disposable blood pressure cuff comprises: two generally rectangular layers 28 and 29 of thermoplastics sheet, preferably polyethylene, heat sealed about their periphery 32 to provide an inflatable pocket 31; a lining of soft non-irritating material 36, usually a sponge or non-woven fabric, on one face; and an inflating device 14 connected to the pocket. The cuff may comprise three pockets of which only one, 31, is inflatable, the inflating device 14 is a plastics or metal stem that may be connected to a squeeze bulb and tube. To prevent the rupture of the pocket the upper layer of thermoplastics may be reinforced with nylon cross hatching. An audio pick-up transducer for a stethoscope may be inserted into two slits (not shown) in the cuff lining. An adhesive pad 30 is provided on the top surface for securing the cuff when it is wound round the patient's arm. A pressure sensitive adhesive or a conventional interlocking fastener may be used. The adhesive pad may be provided with protective tear strip.
