Abstract
1323300 Measuring position DR JOHANNES HEIDENHAIN 14 April 1970 17804/70 Heading G4H [Also in Divisions B3 and G2] A device for the measurable displacement of an object, mounted on an object carrier 1, along two co-ordinate axes X and Y, comprises two guide systems 4 and 6 each including a scale element disposed along one of the axes and a scale reader, and being adapted to displace the carrier along the axis without moving the other guide system. Thus the intersection of the X and Y axes remains fixed. The object carrier is supported above a base 3 by aerostatic bearings in projection 2 and has two upstanding lands 8 and 9 which are slidable in recesses, also provided with aerostatic bearings, in members 4 and 6 respectively which are fixed to sliding members 10, 11 displaceable in guides 5 and 7 fixed to the base 3, by means of threaded spindles 14 and 15 driven by motors 18 and 19. The sliding members also carry the measuring scales scanned by heads 12 and 13, for example of a photo-electric scanning device, carried by bridges 16 and 17 fixed to the base, and controlling an electronic discrimination counting circuit. A bridge (not shown) may be provided over the object carrier 1, for example for supporting a microscope or a machining element, the bridge being upwardly foldable to facilitate introduction of the object.
