Abstract
1323131 Electrolytic cell SOLVAY ET CIE 27 Aug 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 41240/70 Heading C7B In an electrolytic cell having interleaved, vertical, unipolar anodes, e.g. for production of caustic alkali and chlorine or of chlorate, an external side-wall 1 of the cell consists of the vertical edges of the electrodes of one polarity alternating with elongated vertical conducting elements, the assembly being releasably joined together by fixing means distributed along the length of the conducting elements which maintain the vertical edges of the electrodes under compression between the respective pair of conducting elements over the whole of their common area. In the form shown the cell wall comprises alternately edges of the anodes 5 and elongated conductive elements 7 assembled by a sequence of hollow bolts Fig. 4 (not shown), positioned at intervals along the length of the elongated elements. The other three sides of the cell are formed by a cathode box 2 supporting diaphragmcovered cathode fingers which intermesh with the anode plates. A plurality of cells may be connected in series.
